تَوَقَّدن حتى خلتُهُنَّ مَقابسا
I see the peach trees have acquired new garments.
I see the peach trees donned new clothes,
They blazed until I thought them firebrands.
Kindled into flame, I deemed them torches.

They donned a safflower-dyed robe; you would take them
Clad in yellow robes I mistook them for brides,
for brides whenever the eye glimpses them in it.
Whenever the eye glimpsed them midst meadows.

Beside a garden—no beholder ever glimpses
In a garden, no sooner its carpets appeared
its cushions without being shown peacocks.
To a viewer, than partridges hailed them.

Blossom-eyes encircle it; whenever they gaze,
Dewdrops on it glide, when it thrills with joy,
they gaze with lowered eyes, wakeful yet drowsy.
The thrills make the slumbering dewdrops dance.

I enlivened its hills with cups, tugging
I spent my youth reveling with my friends,
with my companions at youth’s trailing skirts and stealthily snatching them.
Trailing the tail of my youth and its wiles.

عُلاهُ إلى أن طاوَل النجمَ جالسا
Gatherings of a Hashemite king—so high rose
The sessions of the Hashimi king have lasted
his eminence that he rivaled the stars in height while seated.
Till his summit rivaled a star in stature.

You see him—though no creature rivals his worth—
You see him with no peer to rival his worth,
as though he had a rival in every limb.
As if for each limb he has a competing limb.

Virtues in which high honors have become [unclear in the supplied text],
Corridors thronged with glory and generosity,
and noble deeds have become captives bound to them.
And achievements turned into deep-cut wonders.

So tell the one racing him: when has a man on foot
Say to his rivals, has a footman ever
kept pace with a horseman toward the goal of noble deeds?
Rivaled the noble horseman in exploits?
