ومانعٍand one who denies للناسto people منfrom أُنْسِهِhis companionship
يغارُis jealous ليfor me منهمْof them علىover نَفْسِهِhimself
And one who denies people his companionship,
Jealous of them for his own soul
Who jealously guards himself from them for me.
And preventing people from his company.

Touching the Pleiades, for one who sets out
Touching the Pleiades is for the one who aspires
To touch them, is more attainable than touching him.
To touch them, closer than touching him.
كمhow many a فَلَكٍcelestial sphere للوصلِfor union قدindeed دارturned ليfor me
بِسَعْدِهِwith its good fortune إذas دارit turned لاnot نُحْسِهits ill fortune
How many a sphere of union has turned for me,
How many orbits has the constellation turned for me
With its good fortune as it turned, not its ill fortune.
With its happiness when it turns, not its misfortune.

ماwhat لاnot تملُّtires العينُthe eye منْof دَرْسِهreading it
Beauty has written upon his face
Beauty has inscribed on his face
What the eye never tires of reading.
What the eye does not tire from studying.
لمdid not يُشْفِقِhave pity اللهGod علىon بَدْرِهِHis full moon
حينَwhen بَرَاهُHe fashioned him لاno ولاnor شَمْسِهHis sun
God had no pity on His full moon
God did not spare his full moon
When He fashioned him—no, nor on His sun.
When He created him without equal or like.
