مجمرةٌ طاف بها الغلمانُ

مجمرةٌ طاف بها الغلمانُ

أبدع في صنعتها الزمانُ

أبدع في صنعتها الزمانُ

A censer the boys carried around;

A brazier the young men carried around,

Time excelled in its making.

Time crafted it to perfection,

كأنها فيما حكى العيانُ

كأنها فيما حكى العيانُ

فوارةٌ وماؤها دخان

فوارةٌ وماؤها دخان

As the eye portrays it, it is like

As if, as onlookers described,

A fountain whose water is smoke,

A fountain with smoke for water,

في بركةٍ حصباؤها نيرانُ

في بركةٍ حصباؤها نيرانُ

إذا تبدتْ حَزِنَ الريحان

إذا تبدتْ حَزِنَ الريحان

In a pool whose pebbles are flames.

In a pond with burning embers for pebbles,

When it appears, sweet basil grieves,

When it appeared, the basil wilted,

وَسُرَّتِ الجيوبُ والأردان

وَسُرَّتِ الجيوبُ والأردان

And necklines and sleeves are gladdened.

And sleeves and cloaks rejoiced.
