كَأَنَّas though بِلادَهُنَّtheir lands سَماءُa sky لَيلٍnight
تَكَشَّفُpart عَنfrom كَواكِبُهاits stars الغُيومُthe clouds
As though their lands were a night sky,
Their countries are like a night sky
whose stars the clouds part to reveal.
With clouds unveiling its stars
مَلِلتُI grew weary بِهاin them الثَواءَdwelling وَأَرَّقَتنيand kept me awake
هُمومٌcares لاdo not تَنامُsleep وَلاand do not تُنيمُlet one sleep
I have grown weary of dwelling there, and have been kept awake
I'm weary of passion for them, and kept awake
by cares that neither sleep nor let me sleep.
By cares that neither slumber nor let me sleep
أَبيتُI spend the night بِهاin them أُراعيI watch كُلَّevery نَجمٍstar
وَشَرُّand the worst رِعايَةِwatching العَينِthe eye النُجومِthe stars
I spend the night there watching every star,
I've spent the night in anxiety for every star
and the worst thing for the eye to watch is the stars.
And nothing is worse for the eye than stargazing
