هَذِهِthis طيبةTaybah وَهَذيand these رباهاits hills
هَذِهِ طيبة وَهَذي رباها
عَمهاenveloped it اللَهGod بِالحَياwith rain وَحَباهاand favored it
عَمها اللَه بِالحَيا وَحَباها
This is Taybah, and these are its hills.
May God shower it with rain and favor it.
هِيَit دارan abode لأَرضِهاto its soil الغُرthe radiant ones جاءَتcame
هِيَ دار لأَرضِها الغُر جاءَت
إِذwhen أَتاهاcame to it محمدMuhammad وَنَحاهاand headed toward it
إِذ أَتاها محمد وَنَحاها
It is an abode to whose soil the radiant ones came,
When Muhammad came to it and made it his destination.
هاجَstirred شَوقيmy longing إِلىtoward مَعالمهاits landmarks الخُضthe green (word continues)
هاجَ شَوقي إِلى مَعالمها الخُض
رِ(completes 'green') فَطُوبىso blessedness لِناظرfor a beholder قَدindeed رَآهاhas seen them
رِ فَطُوبى لِناظر قَد رَآها
My longing stirred for its verdant landmarks;
Blessed is the beholder who has seen them!
هَزنيstirred me نَحوَهاtoward it الغَرامpassionate love فَقَلبيso my heart
هَزني نَحوَها الغَرام فَقَلبي
فيin التهابburning إِذاwhenever ذَكَرتI recall حماهاits sanctuary
في التهاب إِذا ذَكَرت حماها
Passionate love stirred me toward it, so my heart
Is aflame whenever I recall its sanctuary.
هاbehold خَلَعتI cast off العذارthe bridle فيin حُبlove of أَرضa land
ها خَلَعت العذار في حُب أَرض
كُلevery قُطرregion بفضلهاin its excellence قَدindeed تَباهىgloried
كُل قُطر بفضلها قَد تَباهى
Behold, I have cast off the bridle for love of a land;
Every region has gloried in its excellence.
هاتbring forth مثلlike النَبيthe Prophet شَخصاًa person وَقُلand tell ليto me
هات مثل النَبي شَخصاً وَقُل لي
أَينَwhere دارan abode كَدارlike the abode of مَولايmy master طَهTa-Ha
أَينَ دار كَدار مَولاي طَه
Bring forth a person like the Prophet, and tell me:
Where is an abode like that of my master, Ta-Ha?
هُوَhe فَخرthe pride of الوجودexistence وَالفَخرand glory مِنهُfrom him
هُوَ فَخر الوجود وَالفَخر مِنهُ
قَدindeed بَداbecame manifest مُذsince رَقاascended إِلىto مُنتهاهاits utmost height
قَد بَدا مُذ رَقا إِلى مُنتهاها
He is the pride of existence, and from him glory
Has been manifest since he ascended to its utmost height.
هامَwandered bewildered عَقلa mind أَرادsought يُدركto comprehend عَلياexalted rank (word continues)
هامَ عَقل أَراد يُدرك عَليا
هhis (completes preceding word) وَأَضحىand became فيin عَدهits reckoning يتلاهاdallies
ه وَأَضحى في عَده يتلاها
A mind that sought to grasp his exalted rank wandered bewildered,
And came to dally in its reckoning.
هَجرforsook الخَلقcreation فَهوَso he بِاللَهthrough God باقabiding
هَجر الخَلق فَهوَ بِاللَه باق
فَحوىthus he attained سُؤدداًeminence عَظيماgreat وَجاهاand prestige
فَحوى سُؤدداً عَظيما وَجاها
He forsook creation, and through God he abides;
Thus he attained great eminence and prestige.
هنcongratulate قَلباًa heart بِحُبهfor love of him ماتَdied شَوقاًof longing
هن قَلباً بِحُبه ماتَ شَوقاً
وَإِلىand to اللَهGod نَفسهits own soul قَدindeed دَعاهاcalled it
وَإِلى اللَه نَفسه قَد دَعاها
Congratulate a heart that died of longing for love of him,
And called its own soul to God.
