The lightning of the Hijaz flashed, and tears streamed.
The lightning of Hijaz wept,
Indeed, their scattering resembled a shower of radiant stars.
Its tears told the tale of sadness.

O lightning I saw you from afar,
And at its sight I grieved, and it kindled my fire.
You stirred me up and kindled my fire.

O Salma's abode, when shall I see myself within your sanctuary,
O land of Salma, when will I see
My heart soothed, casting off the bridle?
My melting heart humbly pleading?

The breeze of that land is most fragrant,
And the beloved's abodes are the finest abodes.
And the abode of the beloved is best.

To dwellings where Nizar's noble folk abide.
Generous hosts at Mughan's valley.

To him of lofty summits, whose beacon stands high.
That I may rise high as a minaret.

A mercy explicitly set forth in the Book—
In His book, mercy is prescribed for her
She attained it [wording unclear], as far as you could, if you are a reciter.
If only she seeks it, and if I recite.

With glory reinforced by glory.
Pride, confirmed with pride.

عَل أَن تَنطَفي هُناك جِماري
My solace is a pause there in humility,
My comfort is to stand there, make effort
In the hope that my embers will be quenched there.
To expire there, though my horses tire.
