The light of that station flashes ever brighter.
The light of that abode grows brighter in its glow
It has spread throughout existence, length and breadth.
It has spread through existence, in length and breadth

Sweet scent has spread from it, and perfume has wafted forth,
Its fragrance wafts, fresh as the dawn
Forever remaining moist and fresh.
Ever moist and verdant it will remain

أَمحبwould a lover بِحادثwith a calamity الدَهرof fate يَرضىbe content
My fate has withheld it, and I am not content.
My lifetime has pained me, though not pleased I was
Would a lover be content with fate’s calamity?
Can one who loves the fickle world, be pleased?

Separation has hurt me—woe to it! What would it cost it
Parting pained me, though the fault was mine
If it granted me an hour of nearness as a loan?
If it would grant me but an hour's company as debt

The lean, pale camels journeyed to Medina.
The caravan for Medina moved on
If only my cheek were ground for their pale camels!
Would that my cheek became for them a pavement!

My life has been wasted, and indeed my heart is sick,
My life is wasted though my heart is sick
And all my faculties are therefore ailing.
And all my faculties by this made frail

My breast is constricted by sins, so whenever
My breast is straitened by sins so however
Time passes over it, its burning grows.
Much time elapses it will still have burning

My weariness grew, so I set down my saddle,
Disquiet increased in me so I lowered my gear
[At a prophet?] who overlooked the servant’s lapse.
It suits not the servant to slip into error

Smiling when God is obeyed, but
Laughing in obeying God but in violating limits
When the bounds are overstepped, he grows more stern.
Becomes even more somber and austere

Striking and shooting among the battalions of unbelief,
Striking the regiments of unbelief he hoped
And standing in prayer had indeed been obligatory for him.
And rising against them was an ordained duty
