I pass the night with longing whose heat rises within me,
I refused but my love persisted, its heat rising,
And tears upon my cheeks form a cloud of torrential rain.
And tears flowed down my cheeks relentlessly.

And I fold myself over embers and close my eyes upon grit,
I bear the burning embers and ignore the sparks,
And I occupy my limbs, while my heart has its own preoccupation.
Preoccupying my limbs and heart from it.

When night arrives, I am overwhelmed with longing for the beloved abode,
When night comes, I yearn for solitude
And tear ducts overflow, beyond the restraint of reason.
As passions beyond reason overflow.

Yearning drew me to visit her abode,
What in what I have been told of its plight is easy to bear?
Yet what could I say of her condition with ease?

Then neither mountain nor plain will shelter the noble.
No mountain or plain can shelter the generous.

For they are worthy of noble deeds within it.
For they are the most honorable in it.

Long ago; there both my branch and my root grew.
And where my roots and branches once grew.

There my camel bellows; there my worth rises.
And in it my camel desires, and my value rises.

The noble sanctuary of the Reviver of the Faith?

When the first leads to disease and the end to death?

And say to the pretender: Not so fast! Things are not what they seem.
