وشطت نوى تَنهاةَ من أن توافقا

وشطت نوى تَنهاةَ من أن توافقا

فبانت فشَاقَ البَينُ من كان شائِقا

فبانت فشَاقَ البَينُ من كان شائِقا

And Tanhāh’s destination lay too far away for us to meet.

The determination waned from agreeing

So she departed, and separation stirred longing in one already yearning.

So the separation of those longing became clear

فلن تَعدَمي منّا السّراة ذوي النهى

فلن تَعدَمي منّا السّراة ذوي النهى

إذا قحطت والمُسمحين المغالقا

إذا قحطت والمُسمحين المغالقا

You will not lack among us noble leaders possessed of sound judgment,

You will not lack from us the night companions of restraint

when drought strikes, nor men generous with the gaming arrows.

When times are lean and rain clouds sparse
