And how many lie in the well—the well of Badr—

Of young men and noble Arabs!

Does Ibn Kabsha threaten me with our return to life?

And how can dead bodies and skulls have life?

Is he unable to ward off death from me,

Yet resurrect me when my bones have decayed?

Ah, who will tell the All-Merciful on my behalf

That I am forsaking the month of fasting?

So tell God to deny me my drink,

And tell God to deny me my food.

Deadly fates have shunned you and let me escape—

A brother to the distressed, and the defending champion.
