سائِلُ بِوَقعِ تَميمٍ يَمنٍ

سائِلُ بِوَقعِ تَميمٍ يَمنٍ

لَمّا أَلاموا جِوارَ التَيمِ أَو عُكُلِ

لَمّا أَلاموا جِوارَ التَيمِ أَو عُكُلِ

Ask Yemen about Tamim’s onslaught,

With the striking fall of fortunate Yemen

when they dishonored the protection of al-Taym or ʿUkl.

When they pained the neighbor of Taym or Ukal

فَلَم يُفاجِئهُم إِلّا تَنادُبُنا

فَلَم يُفاجِئهُم إِلّا تَنادُبُنا

ضَرباً تَميمُ عَلى الهاماتِ لا شَلَلِ

ضَرباً تَميمُ عَلى الهاماتِ لا شَلَلِ

So nothing took them by surprise but our rallying one another:

So they were not surprised except by our lament

“Strike, Tamim, upon their heads—may no paralysis befall you!”

Taym has struck the vital organs, no flaccidity
