وَقَد بَرِئتُ فَما بِالصَدرِ مِن قَلَبَه
Youth and love for the proud, beguiling woman are gone.
Youth has passed, and so has love of the mischievous cousin,
And I have recovered; no ailment remains in my breast.
And I have recovered, with no heart left inside my chest,
وَقَدand indeed تَثَلَّمَhave become chipped أَنيابيmy fangs وَأَدرَكَنيand has overtaken me

قَرنق عَلَيَّ شَديدٌ فاحِشُ الغَلبَة
And my fangs have become chipped, and I have been overtaken
My teeth are worn down, and old age has overtaken me,
By an adversary fierce against me, crushing in his dominance.
A harsh, overwhelming decrepitude weighs down on me,
وَقَدand indeed رَمىhas shot بِسُراهِwith his arrows الدَهرِTime مُعتَمِداًdeliberately

في المَنكِبَينِ وَفي الساقَينِ وَالرَقَبَة
And Time has deliberately shot his arrows
And time has pierced me with its arrows,
Into both shoulders, both shins, and the neck.
In my shoulders, legs, and neck.
