لا يعتري شربنا اللجاء وقد
تُوهبare bestowed فيناًamong us القيانsinging girls والحللand robes
تُوهب فيناً القيان والحلل
No wrangling besets our drinking companions, and indeed
Singing girls and robes are bestowed among us.
وفتيةٍand young men كالسُّيوفِlike swords أحضَرُهُمI keep their company
وفتيةٍ كالسُّيوفِ أحضَرُهُم
لاno عاجزweakling فيهمamong them ولاnor بُخلُmisers
لا عاجز فيهم ولا بُخلُ
And youths like swords, whose company I keep—
No weakling among them, nor any miser.
بيضfair-faced مساميحopen-handed فيin الشتاءwinter وإنand even if
بيض مساميح في الشتاء وإن
أخلفfailed نجمa star عنwith regard to وبلهits downpour وبلواthey showered bounty
أخلف نجم عن وبله وبلوا
Fair-faced, open-handed in winter; even if
A star fails to bring its downpour, they rain bounty.
لاnot يتأرّونthey linger فيin المضيقa tight spot وإنand if
لا يتأرّون في المضيق وإن
نادىcalled out منادٍa caller أنsaying انزلواdismount! نزلواthey dismounted
نادى منادٍ أن انزلوا نزلوا
They do not hang back in a tight spot; and if
A caller cries, 'Dismount!' they dismount.
