May spring and summer downpours never cease

pouring generously upon the waterholes of al-Ghamim, then Yatrab.

For, by God, I do not pray for rain upon the land out of love for it,

but I pray it only for you, Har, son of Tawlab.

It has gathered the clan's afflictions within itself,

while you lie upon the timbers of a bier, turned about.

As though a man among men, whose mother's son I was,

were encamped beside a channel from the bed of the Tigris.
