Whatever they desecrate in God's land, whatever crimes they commit,
we will not raise the white flag, O Rafah.
ولوand even if أعادواthey brought back لناto us القتلىthe slain بِمُعجزةٍby a miracle

Even if they brought the slain back to us by a miracle,
and the martyrs excused death or pardoned it,
لاno، لنwill not نُسامحَwe forgive مَنْthose who حلّواthey came بِمجزرةٍwith a massacre
وإنْand if أقامواthey remained ؛ فللذّبحِthen for the slaughter الذيthat ذبحواthey slaughtered
no, we will not forgive those who came with a massacre;
and if they remain, it is for the slaughter they inflicted.
وكيفand how ننسىwe forget شظاياfragments of زهرةٍa flower صُلِيَتْwas burned
وعِرْضَand the honor of مَنْthe one who ولِدَتـْهاbore her حينماwhen سَفحواthey shed blood ؟
And how can we forget the fragments of a flower burned,
and the honor of the one who bore her, when they shed blood?
وهلand can...? نـجاورُwe live beside مَنْthose who بالصَّهْدِwith scorching heat أضرَمهاset it ablaze

And can we live beside those who set it ablaze with scorching heat—
an orange grove opening to the rising sun?
ومَنْand who يُسالِمُmakes peace with مَنْthose who لمdid not يُبْقِleave نافذةًa window

And who makes peace with those who left no window
for the star's pulse and the waves they wounded?
همthey الذينthose who أتواcame منfrom عَتْمِthe darkness of ظالمةٍan oppressor
وقدand indeed أناخواthey encamped علىupon نَحْريmy throat .. وقدand indeed جمحواthey ran wild
They are the ones who came from an oppressor's darkness,
and encamped upon my throat, and ran wild.
وقلتُand I said : أحتملُI can bear الأغرابَstrangers إنْif حَسُنَتْwere good
أقدامُهمtheir feet ، فيin فضاءِthe space of البيتِthe house ، أوor جنحواthey inclined
And I said: I can bear strangers, if gentle
are their footsteps within the house's space, or if they incline to peace.
لنwill not يُحسنواthey do good أبداًever ، هذاthis إذاwhen ارتكسواthey fell back
فكيفso how إنْif سُعِّرواthey were inflamed يوماًone day وإنْand if شَطَحواthey went to extremes ؟
They will never do good—and that is when they fall back;
so what if one day they are inflamed and go to extremes?
وَرَوَّغواand they coated السُّمَthe poison ، وارتدّواand they reverted لشأفَتهمto their roots
دوماًalways ، وفيand in فتنةِthe strife of الأغيارِothers قدindeed نَفَحواthey fanned
And they coated the poison and reverted to their roots,
always, and they have fanned strife among others.
وكمand how many a رسولٍmessenger لطِيبِfor the goodness of الدّهرِthe age قالspoke ، وماand did not

And how many a messenger spoke for an age of goodness, yet
saw only backstabbing, ravaging all.
وأحْفَرواand they dug مثلَlike مَنْthose who راحواdeparted بِخَيبتهمwith their disappointment
وإنْand if بقواthey remain ؛ فهوthen it is قبرٌa grave عندناamong us مُنِحواthey were granted
And they dug like those who departed in disappointment;
and if they remain, it is a grave they are granted among us.
لسناwe are not مَدَقَّa trampling ground for خيولِthe horses of الطّامعينthe covetous ، وهلand have...?

We are no trampling ground for the horses of the covetous; have
they returned to them in victory? Have they rejoiced?

From Gaza of the valiant, the sand is an earthquake,
and in Jenin they saw what came to pass, and were disgraced.
هُمُthey الذينthose who ابتدواbegan دَهْماًraiding وعربدةًand rampaging
فليجرعواso let them swallow الردَّthe response قَاصفاًshattering أينماwherever قُبِحواthey were reviled
They are the ones who began the raids and the rampage;
so let them swallow the shattering reply, wherever they are reviled.

We shall surely remain, like the name to which rose
our weddings; and the afflicted one is joyful.

No, they will not sleep; and if they sleep, it is in dread,
and behind every wall of theirs is a specter.
ياO لعنةَcurse of الزمنِtime الأعمىblind كفىenough صَلفاًarrogance

أكُلماis it whenever...? زادincreased دمعيmy tears .. كلّماeach time سَبحواthey swam ؟
O curse of blind time, enough arrogance!
Whenever my tears rise, do they swim all the more?
لربّماquite possibly زادتincreased الأيتامُthe orphans .. وانكشفتand were laid bare
هذيthese البيوتُhouses عَراءًbare ، والمدىand the horizon نطحواthey rammed
Perhaps the orphans have multiplied, and laid bare
are these houses, naked; and they have rammed the horizon.

And perhaps they seized by force a handspan upon my body,
but they gained nothing but this shame.

So let the fascist world drink once more
my blood—the prophet—from the cup they made overflow.
