قِصارُ الهَمِّ إِلّا في صَديقٍ

قِصارُ الهَمِّ إِلّا في صَديقٍ

كَأَنَّ وِطابَهُمُ موشى الضَبابِ

كَأَنَّ وِطابَهُمُ موشى الضَبابِ

Their concern is limited, save where a friend is concerned;

Short are life's griefs, except a friend's deceit,

As though their milk-skins were mottled spiny-tailed lizards.

Their friendship seems a mist that comes and goes.
