ظَعائِنُ لا توفي بِهِنَّ ظَعائِنٌ

ظَعائِنُ لا توفي بِهِنَّ ظَعائِنٌ

وَلا الثاقِباتُ مِن لُؤَيِّ بِنِ غالِبِ

وَلا الثاقِباتُ مِن لُؤَيِّ بِنِ غالِبِ

Women in howdahs whom no other women in howdahs can match,

The doe's eyes do not fulfill the doe's eyes,

nor the illustrious women of Lu’ayy son of Ghalib,

Nor those that pierce, from the black core of Ibn Ghalib,

وَلا ثَعلَبِيّاتٌ حَلَلنَ عُباعِباً

وَلا ثَعلَبِيّاتٌ حَلَلنَ عُباعِباً

وَلا أُسرَةُ القَعقاعِ مِن رَهطِ حاجِبِ

وَلا أُسرَةُ القَعقاعِ مِن رَهطِ حاجِبِ

nor the Tha‘labite women who settled at ‘Uba‘ib,

Nor fox-like cunning ones that solve tangled problems,

nor the family of al-Qa‘qa‘, from Hajib’s clan.

Nor family of the bald from the tribe of Hajib.
