Was it from the land of al-Ghamim that I glimpsed a fire?
I saw a faint light in the land of clouds
It appeared in the night, so at its sight I was lost in remembrance.
It seemed weak, so I understood it was a reminder

It reminded me of smiles as it was guiding
Sparks to my heart along with kisses.
To my heart, kisses like embers

There was a time when I loved
She appeared to us like an oryx, shy and elusive.
When it appeared to us like the moonlight

I saw the full moon carried on a rod
And the night of her hair had revealed the day.
And the night of hair showed the daylight

His teardrop flowed heavily with longing
And she begrudged him a visit.
As she was stingy to visit him at night

Its outpouring puts the heavy rains to shame

But this is the nature of the fair
Through all time, they have never kept faith with a neighbor.
Never honoring a neighbor throughout time

As if keeping a covenant were something
Laid upon them as a disgrace among people.
That brings them disgrace amongst people

None are more miserable than a lover
I fell in love with budding-breasted maidens and virgins.

It is the nature of passion to weep copiously
Who forces himself to endure being parted from his loved ones.

From the tale-bearer, and time and again I let them flow.
