اِنّاindeed, we لتُتحِفُناsurely bestow upon us بالأُنسِwith companionship كتبكمُyour letters
واِنْand even if بعدتُمْyou are far away فاِنَّthen indeed الشوقَlonging يُدنيهاbrings them near
Truly, your letters grace us with companionship;
Indeed, your letters bring us the gift of companionship.
Though you are far away, longing draws them near.
And though you are far away, longing brings them near.
وكيفand how نضجرُwe grow weary منهاof them وهيwhile they مُذْهِبَةٌdispelling
مِنfrom وحشةِthe loneliness of البينِseparation لوعاتٍpangs نُعانيهاwe suffer them
And how could we weary of them, when they dispel
And how could we tire of them, when they dispel
The torments we suffer from separation’s loneliness?
The pangs we suffer from the loneliness of separation?
فاِنْso if وصفتُمْyou describe لناto us فيهاin them اشتياقَكُمُyour longing
فعندناthen we have منكمُfrom you أضعافُmany times ماwhat فيهاis in them
If in them you describe to us your yearning,
So if you describe your longing to us in them,
We feel for you many times all that they contain.
Then our longing for you is many times what they contain.

Ask the breeze of the east wind to bear our greeting
Ask the east wind’s breeze to carry our greeting
To you—for it knows how we would send it.
To you, for it knows how we offer it.
