كانوا عَلى الشِركِ يولونَ الجِزيلَ وَيَح

كانوا عَلى الشِركِ يولونَ الجِزيلَ وَيَح

مونَ النَزيلَ وَيَرعَونَ المَواثيقا

Though polytheists, they bestowed generous gifts and pro—

حَتّى إِذا ما نَفى التَوحيدُ شِركَهُمُ

بِأَحمَدٍ وَاِستَبانوا الحَقَّ تَحقيقا

بِأَحمَدٍ وَاِستَبانوا الحَقَّ تَحقيقا

Until monotheism, through Ahmad, banished their polytheism,

Until, when monotheism had banished their polytheism

And they discerned the truth with certainty.

Through Ahmad, and they had recognized the truth with certainty,

وَلّوا غَداةَ تُوَلّوا عَن مَكارِمِهِم

وَلّوا غَداةَ تُوَلّوا عَن مَكارِمِهِم

وَمَزَّقوا عَدلَهُ بِالجَورِ تَمزيقا

وَمَزَّقوا عَدلَهُ بِالجَورِ تَمزيقا

They turned away the very day they turned from their noble ways,

They turned from their noble virtues the day they assumed power,

And tore his justice apart with tyranny—utterly.

And tore his justice to shreds with tyranny.
