قالواthey said الجَماعَةُthe community قُلتُI said آلَthe family of مُحَمَّدٍMuhammad
قالوا الجَماعَةُ قُلتُ آلَ مُحَمَّدٍ
قَومٌa people بِهِمwith them شَفعُpaired الإِلَهِGod رَسولَهُHis Messenger
قَومٌ بِهِم شَفعُ الإِلَهِ رَسولَهُ
They said, “The community”; I said, “The family of Muhammad”—
A people with whom God paired His Messenger.
وَبِهِمand through them عَلىin support of تَوحيدِهِaffirming His oneness فيamong عُصبَةِthe community of الthe (continued in the next line)
وَبِهِم عَلى تَوحيدِهِ في عُصبَةِ ال
إِسلامِIslam إِذwhen جَحَدواthey denied أَقامَHe established دَليلَهُHis proof
إِسلامِ إِذ جَحَدوا أَقامَ دَليلَهُ
And through them, to affirm His oneness, among the community of
Islam, when they denied it, He established His proof.
أَفَغَيرِهِمthen anyone other than them? أَبغيI seek السَبيلَthe path إِلىto الهُدىguidance
أَفَغَيرِهِم أَبغي السَبيلَ إِلى الهُدى
وَهُمُwhile they الَّذينَthose who بِهِمthrough them أَبانَHe made clear سَبيلَهُHis path
وَهُمُ الَّذينَ بِهِم أَبانَ سَبيلَهُ
Shall I then seek the path to guidance through any but them,
When they are the ones through whom He made His path clear?
