بِضِيائِهِ فَأَعادَ أَعيادَ اللِقا
The lightning of slumber brought al-Abraq before my eye
The lightning of the lands brought light to my eyes,
with its radiance, and so restored the festivals of reunion.
With its radiance, it renewed the days of meeting.

لَيسَتِ الرُقادَ بِها أَعَزَّ المُلتَقى
When outspread joy was folded away by an awakening
When the joy of wakefulness unfolded,
that was no slumber, it thereby made reunion hard to attain
Sleep was no longer the most precious gathering.

and renewed in me a yearning whose showers I turned
It stirred in me a passion, which made me shed
into scattered tears at the place of our gathering.
Tears of yearning in the place of our separated union.

So they flowed like carnelian at al-Aqiq, for the remoteness of one
So it flowed as carnelian with carnelian for the absence of one
who once used to make them flow clear at al-Naqa.
Who used to flow it purely with purity.
