أَوَّلُ وَجدي مالَهُ آخِرُ

أَوَّلُ وَجدي مالَهُ آخِرُ

وَباطِني بَينَ الوَرى ظاهِرُ

وَباطِني بَينَ الوَرى ظاهِرُ

The beginning of my rapture has no end;

The beginning of my longing has no end.

my inward reality stands manifest among all creation.

And my inward self is manifest among humankind.

وَشَرعَتي في الحُبِّ مَبذولَةٌ

وَشَرعَتي في الحُبِّ مَبذولَةٌ

يَؤُمُّها الوارِدُ وَالصادِرُ

يَؤُمُّها الوارِدُ وَالصادِرُ

My law in love is freely offered;

And my way in love is freely offered;

all who come and go believe in it.

The arriving and the departing make for it.

وَسُنَّتي فيهِ لِأَهلِ التُقى

وَسُنَّتي فيهِ لِأَهلِ التُقى

يَرفُضُها مِن جَهلِهِ الفاجِرُ

يَرفُضُها مِن جَهلِهِ الفاجِرُ

My way in love is for the God-fearing;

And my practice in it is for the devout;

the wicked man rejects it out of ignorance.

The wicked one rejects it out of his ignorance.

وَدَعوَتي جامِعَةٌ لِلوَرى

وَدَعوَتي جامِعَةٌ لِلوَرى

يَدعو بِها المُؤمِنُ وَالكافِرُ

يَدعو بِها المُؤمِنُ وَالكافِرُ

My summons embraces all creation;

And my invocation embraces all humankind;

believer and unbeliever alike proclaim it.

The believer and the unbeliever pray with it.

وَسَرحَةُ الآرامِ في رامَتي

وَسَرحَةُ الآرامِ في رامَتي

آنِسَةٌ لَيسَ بِها نافِرُ

آنِسَةٌ لَيسَ بِها نافِرُ

The gazelles’ range in my Rāmah

And the gazelles’ tree in my Rāmah

is tame; none there shies away.

Is welcoming; none there takes fright.

وَزائِغاً أَصبَحَ عَن رُشدِهِ

وَزائِغاً أَصبَحَ عَن رُشدِهِ

لِغَيرِ مَغنى مَشهَدي الزائِرُ

لِغَيرِ مَغنى مَشهَدي الزائِرُ

And astray from his sound sense has become,

And he has strayed from his right guidance—

for no cause, the visitor to my shrine:

The visitor to an abode other than the dwelling of my presence.

فَمُنكَري لَيسَ لَهُ عارِفٌ

فَمُنكَري لَيسَ لَهُ عارِفٌ

وَخاذِلي لَيسَ لَهُ ناصِرُ

وَخاذِلي لَيسَ لَهُ ناصِرُ

The one who denies me has no one to recognize him;

So the one I disavow has no one to acknowledge him;

the one who forsakes me, no one to support him;

And the one who forsakes me has no helper;

وَمَوثَقي لَيسَ لَهُ مُطلِقُ

وَمَوثَقي لَيسَ لَهُ مُطلِقُ

وَمُطلَقي لَيسَ لَهُ آسِرُ

وَمُطلَقي لَيسَ لَهُ آسِرُ

the one who fetters me, no one to release him;

And my bond has no one to loosen it;

and the one who releases me has no captor.

And the one I free has no captor.
