بَنى العَقلُ هَبّوا لِأَمرٍ عَجابٍ

بَنى العَقلُ هَبّوا لِأَمرٍ عَجابٍ

وَلَكِنَّ لِلعَقلِ عَنهُ نُشوزُ

وَلَكِنَّ لِلعَقلِ عَنهُ نُشوزُ

Sons of reason, rouse yourselves for a wondrous affair;

The mind built up, they rallied for a wondrous cause

yet reason recoils from it.

But the mind resisted them and their defiance rose

أُناسٌ رَأَوا أَنَّهُم قادَةٌ

أُناسٌ رَأَوا أَنَّهُم قادَةٌ

وَقالوا الجَماعَةُ حَرزٌ حَريزُ

وَقالوا الجَماعَةُ حَرزٌ حَريزُ

Some people deemed themselves leaders,

Some people thought themselves to be the leaders

and said, "The community is a secure refuge."

And said the group is an impenetrable fortress

وَكُلٌّ يَرى قَولَهُ واجِباً

وَكُلٌّ يَرى قَولَهُ واجِباً

وَقَولَ جَماعَتِهِ لا يَجوزُ

وَقَولَ جَماعَتِهِ لا يَجوزُ

And each considers his own word binding,

Each sees their own word as a necessity

and does not go beyond his community's word.

And their group's word as something they refuse
