Rare among humankind is one like me—

    mighty, grown mighty through abasement

to the one I behold after me,

and the one who is before—before me.

So in my rending through him lies my mending,

and in my union with him lie my separation

and the universals of the particu-

lars of what appears from my whole.

And in the dispersal of the gather-

er, with me is the gathering of the whole.
