لا رُحتُ لِلآمالِ مِنكَ مُبَلِّغاً

لا رُحتُ لِلآمالِ مِنكَ مُبَلِّغاً

إِن كانَ لي في قَصدِ غَيرِكَ مُبتَغى

إِن كانَ لي في قَصدِ غَيرِكَ مُبتَغى

May I never go forth bringing my hopes from you to fulfillment,

I did not go to you as a messenger of hopes

if I have any aim in seeking anyone but you.

If I had any intention other than you to seek

وَمَتى لِقَولِ سِواكَ أَضحى مُصغِياً

وَمَتى لِقَولِ سِواكَ أَضحى مُصغِياً

سَمعي وَقَلبي عَن رَشادِكَ ما صَنا

سَمعي وَقَلبي عَن رَشادِكَ ما صَنا

And when have another's words ever won the attention

And when to any word but yours I lent an ear

of my hearing? My heart has never turned from your guidance.

My hearing and heart from your guidance did not abstain

يا مَن مُلِئتُ بِحُبِّهِ وَجداً بِهِ

يا مَن مُلِئتُ بِحُبِّهِ وَجداً بِهِ

أَمسَيتُ مِن شُغلِ الأَنامِ مُفَرَّغا

أَمسَيتُ مِن شُغلِ الأَنامِ مُفَرَّغا

O you, I am filled with love for you, yearning for you;

O you whom with love I am filled, for him I yearn

I have become free of preoccupation with humankind.

From people's preoccupations I have been set free

لَم يَظمَ وارِدُ عَينِ ظِلِّكَ لا وَلا

لَم يَظمَ وارِدُ عَينِ ظِلِّكَ لا وَلا

ضَحٌّ لِمَن أَضحى عَلَيهِ مُسبَغا

ضَحٌّ لِمَن أَضحى عَلَيهِ مُسبَغا

No one who comes to the spring of your shade has thirsted—no, nor

Neither comer nor goer in your shade is denied

is there scorching sunlight for one over whom it is amply spread.

Clear for whom upon it protection is bestowed

وَكَذاكَ ما كَذَبَ الفُؤادَ وَما رَأى

وَكَذاكَ ما كَذَبَ الفُؤادَ وَما رَأى

بَصَري لَهُ ما زاغَ عَنهُ وَما طَغى

بَصَري لَهُ ما زاغَ عَنهُ وَما طَغى

And likewise, the heart was not belied, nor was what

Thus my heart spoke no lies, nor my eyes untrue

my sight saw of him; it neither swerved from him nor overstepped.

My sight from it did not stray nor transgress its view

فَلِذاكَ لَم يُمحَ الَّذي أَثبَتَهُ

فَلِذاكَ لَم يُمحَ الَّذي أَثبَتَهُ

لي مَشهِداً بِالغَيبِ مَن فيهِ لَغا

لي مَشهِداً بِالغَيبِ مَن فيهِ لَغا

Thus what he established was not erased—

Therefore what it made firm, cannot be erased

a vision for me in the unseen—by anyone who spoke idly of it.

A vision of the absent One, in whom my thoughts are plunged

يا مَن بِهِ وَلَهي وَمِن حُبّي لَهُ

يا مَن بِهِ وَلَهي وَمِن حُبّي لَهُ

وَسِواهُ وَجهي لِلتَوَجُّهِ ما اِبتَغى

وَسِواهُ وَجهي لِلتَوَجُّهِ ما اِبتَغى

O you, for whom I am enraptured; out of my love for you,

O you for whom I am distracted, and my love for you

my face has sought no other to turn toward.

And but you, my face to turn nowhere else sought

عَجِّل بِصَبري فيكَ رَجعَةَ كَرَّتي

عَجِّل بِصَبري فيكَ رَجعَةَ كَرَّتي

لَأُذيقَ كَأسَ المَوتِ مُهجَةَ مَن بَغى

لَأُذيقَ كَأسَ المَوتِ مُهجَةَ مَن بَغى

Hasten, through my patience for your sake, the return of my charge,

Hasten my patience's return to you

so I may make the soul of whoever transgressed taste the cup of death.

I will make those who sought drink the cup of death

فَعَلَيكَ ما بَيني وَما بَينَ الوَرى

فَعَلَيكَ ما بَيني وَما بَينَ الوَرى

مِن حاسِدٍ وَمُعانِدٍ يَومَ الوَغى

مِن حاسِدٍ وَمُعانِدٍ يَومَ الوَغى

So upon you rests what lies between me and humankind—

Upon you, what is between me and all creation

every envier and stubborn foe—on the day of battle.

Of enviers and adversaries on the day of agony

وَلَقَد هُزَمتُ الناكِثينَ لِبَيعَتي

وَلَقَد هُزَمتُ الناكِثينَ لِبَيعَتي

لِمّا عَقَرتُ بِحَيِّهِم جَمَلاً رَغا

لِمّا عَقَرتُ بِحَيِّهِم جَمَلاً رَغا

And indeed, I routed those who broke their pledge of allegiance to me,

And I defeated the oath-breakers for my pledge

when I hamstrung a bellowing camel in their encampment.

When I from their abode a camel hamstrung
