أَثبَتُّI affirmed ماwhat عايَنتُI beheld مِنfrom نَحوِهاher side
بِمَحوِby effacing ماwhat عايَنتُI beheld مِنfrom نَحويmy side
I affirmed what I beheld from her side
I confirm what I have seen of her beauty
by effacing what I beheld from my own.
With erasure of what I have seen of myself
وَرُحتُand I went on مِنfrom راحِwine هَواهاlove for her وَلاand not
أَفَرِّقُI distinguish بَينَbetween السَكَرِintoxication وَالصَحوِand sobriety
And from the wine of love for her I went on, and do not
I found respite from the wind of her love, yet I
distinguish between intoxication and sobriety.
Do not distinguish between intoxication and sobriety
أَمحوI efface الَّذيthat which أَثبَتُّI affirmed مِنof حُسنِهاher beauty
وَأَشهَدُand I witness الإِثباتَaffirmation بِالمَحوِthrough effacement
I efface what I affirmed of her beauty,
I erase what I confirm of her beauty
and witness affirmation through effacement.
And testify to erasure with confirmation
