Ah, is there a return to my home in the valley of Tuwayliʿ,

though it has grown distant since my departure?

And will that bygone time return there,

brief as it was, while my sorrow for it lasts so long?

And is there a way for my heart's thirst to drink at the watering place of the

protected pasture, and to partake of the sweet-flowing draught?

And from separation's noonday heat, is there for me in its shade

a place to rest at noon, and someone to lift me from the harm of stumbling?
