عَلى كُلِّ صَبِّ كَيفَ لا يَقبَلِ الرُشى
A young gazelle—how I marvel at him, now that he has become a judge
How strange he takes no bribes, and still a judge
Over every lovesick lover: how can he not accept bribes?
Though bribes be pressed on him on every hand

And at his gaze—how, with the white blades of its blackness,
And I that fair repute he has, gainsay,
Does it cleave deep within the breast, yet leave the body unscratched?
Since with a blackened heart he leads - his hand unstained.
