بِالأَمسِyesterday قَدindeed قالَsaid الحَجىreason ليto me
بِالأَمسِ قَد قالَ الحَجى لي
لاdo not تُلقِcast ناظِرَيكَyour two eyes إِلىtoward الحِجالِthe curtained chambers
لا تُلقِ ناظِرَيكَ إِلى الحِجالِ
Yesterday, Reason said to me:
Yesterday, reason said to me:
“Do not cast your eyes toward the curtained chambers.”
“Do not cast your eyes toward the curtained chambers.”
فَقَطَعتُso I stopped طَرفيmy gaze دُونَهاshort of them
فَقَطَعتُ طَرفي دُونَها
وَأَطَعتُand I obeyed ماwhat قالَsaid الحِجىreason ليto me
وَأَطَعتُ ما قالَ الحِجى لي
So I cut my gaze off before it reached them,
So I stopped my gaze short of them,
And obeyed what Reason had said to me.
and obeyed what reason said to me.
