لَئِنthough قَعَدَheld back الزَمانُtime بِكُلِّevery حُرٍّnoble person
لَئِن قَعَدَ الزَمانُ بِكُلِّ حُرٍّ
وَخُصَّand were favored أُوليthose possessed of الجَهالَةِignorance بِاليَسارِwith wealth
وَخُصَّ أُولي الجَهالَةِ بِاليَسارِ
Though time has held back every noble soul,
And favored the ignorant with wealth,
فَآحادُso the units الحِسابِof a number عَلىon يَمينٍthe right
فَآحادُ الحِسابِ عَلى يَمينٍ
وَآلافُand the thousands الحِسابِof a number عَلىon يَسارِthe left
وَآلافُ الحِسابِ عَلى يَسارِ
The units in a number stand on the right,
And the thousands stand on the left.
