مَواعيدُهُhis promises بِالوَصلِof union أَحلامُdreams نائِمٍa sleeper

His promises of union are a sleeper’s dreams;
I liken them to the barren desert, or to its mirage.
فَمَنwho, then لِيfor me بِوَجهٍwith a face لَوif تَحَيَّرlost his way فيin الدُجىthe darkness
أَخُوa man of سَفَرٍtravel فيin لَيلِa night of غَيمٍclouds سَرىtraveled by night بِهِby it
Who, then, can grant me a face by whose light, if lost in the darkness,
a traveler on a cloudy night could make his way?
