نَوَىintended لِيfor me بَعدَafter إِكثارِmuch repetition of السُؤالِasking
حَبيبٌa beloved أَنto يُسامِحَbe generous بِالنَوالِwith bounty
After much entreaty, he resolved for my sake—
After asking much, a beloved promised gifts to me,
A beloved—to be generous with bounty.
But when I sought to claim that vow’s validity
فَلَماso when رمتُI sought إِنجازَاًfulfillment لِوَعديof the promise owed me
عَلَيهِbinding on him أَبىhe refused الوَفاءَfulfillment بِماof what نَوَىhe intended ليfor me
So when I sought fulfillment of the promise owed me
He cruelly refused to keep his sworn promise.
By him, he refused to honor what he had intended for me.
And his closeness was the cure to my malady!
وَكانَand was القُربُnearness مِنهُto him شِفاءَa cure for نَفسيmy soul
فَقَدyet indeed قَضَتِhave decreed النَوائِبُcalamities بِالنَوىwith separation ليfor me
And nearness to him was the cure for my soul;
Yet misfortunes have revoked those vows once made me.
Yet calamities have decreed separation for me.
