مَنwhoever عَزاascribed المَجدَglory إِلَيناto us قَدindeed صَدَقspoke truly
لَمdid not يُلِمincur blame منwhoever قالspoke مَهماwhatever قالhe said حقْtruth
Whoever ascribed glory to us spoke truly.
Whoever ascribes glory to us has spoken truly.
No one who spoke was at fault—whatever he said was true.
Whoever speaks truth incurs no blame, whatever he says.
مَجدُناour glory الشَمسُthe sun سَناءًgrandeur وَسَناًand radiance
مَنwhoever يَرمُseeks سَترto veil سَناهاits radiance لَمdid not يُطِقْmanage
Our glory is the sun in splendor and radiance;
Our glory is the sun in grandeur and radiance.
whoever would veil its brilliance has no power to.
Whoever seeks to veil its radiance cannot do so.
أَيُّهاO you الناعيbearer of death-tidings إِلَيناto us مجدَناour glory
هَلdoes يَضُرُّharm المَجدَglory أَنthat خَطبٌa calamity طَرقْcame knocking
O you who announce our glory’s death to us,
O you who bring us tidings of our glory's death,
can glory be harmed because calamity came knocking?
Does it harm glory that calamity has come knocking?
لاnot نُرَعwe are dismayed لِلدَمعby the tears فيin آماقِناthe inner corners of our eyes

The tears in the corners of our eyes do not dismay us;
Let us not be dismayed by tears in the corners of our eyes,
the hands of searing grief have mingled them with blood.
Which the hands of burning grief have mingled with blood.

Fate raged against us and struck,
Time raged against us, then struck;
as Fate is ever enraged against the freeborn.
And so Time is wrathful toward the noble.

Long has sovereignty been enamored of us;
And long ago, kingship grew enamored of us,
it saw suns among us and fell in love.
And saw suns among us and fell in love.

Kings of ours have passed away, renowned
Kings from among us have passed away, famed
with the sun’s renown, revealed across the horizon.
As the sun is famed when it shines upon the horizon.

We are descendants of the Banū Māʾ al-Samāʾ;
We are the sons of Banū Māʾ al-Samāʾ;
the glances of all eyes yearn toward us.
Toward us turn the longing glances of eyes.

And when our faith remains whole,
And if our faith remains intact,
whatever parts from us of this world is paltry.
Then whatever of this world falls away is paltry.

of those very years, twenty shone forth,
Twenty of their finest shone forth,
and three radiant ones glitter.
And three, radiant and gleaming.
