عَنِ القَصدِ قَد جاروا وَما جُرتُ عَن قَصدِ

عَنِ القَصدِ قَد جاروا وَما جُرتُ عَن قَصدِ

إِذا خَفيَت طُرقُ الفَرائِسِ عَن أُسدِ

إِذا خَفيَت طُرقُ الفَرائِسِ عَن أُسدِ

They have indeed strayed from the right course, but I have not strayed from it.

They have erred from purpose, though I have not erred from purpose,

When the paths to prey are hidden from lions.

When the ways of subtlety are obscured from the lion.

إِذا اِعتَرَضوا لِلبُخلِ أَعرَضتُ عَنهُم

إِذا اِعتَرَضوا لِلبُخلِ أَعرَضتُ عَنهُم

وَإِن مَنَّ أَقوامٌ كَتَمتُ الَّذي أُسدي

وَإِن مَنَّ أَقوامٌ كَتَمتُ الَّذي أُسدي

When they turn to miserliness, I turn away from them.

When they put forward avarice, I turn away from them,

And though some people boast of their favors, I conceal what I bestow.

Though some people confer bounty, I conceal what I bestow.

فَلِّلَهِ ما أُخفي مِنَ العدلِ وَالنَدى

فَلِّلَهِ ما أُخفي مِنَ العدلِ وَالنَدى

وَلِلَّهِ ما أُبدي مِنَ الفَضلِ وَالمَجدِ

وَلِلَّهِ ما أُبدي مِنَ الفَضلِ وَالمَجدِ

So to God belongs what I conceal of justice and generosity.

To God belongs what I conceal of justice and munificence,

And to God belongs what I reveal of excellence and glory.

To God belongs what I reveal of merit and glory.

وَلا أَلتَقي ضَيفي بِغَيرِ بَشاشَةٍ

وَلا أَلتَقي ضَيفي بِغَيرِ بَشاشَةٍ

إِذَن فَجَحَدتُ اللَه خَيرَهُ عِندي

إِذَن فَجَحَدتُ اللَه خَيرَهُ عِندي

Nor do I meet my guest without a cheerful face.

I do not meet my guest without an open countenance,

Then I would have denied God's bounty to me.

Else I belie God's bounty that is with me.
