Slumber prevailed, and wine's mounts drew near,
The caravan has departed, the camels' resting place draws near,
And they yearned for the song of their faithful drivers.
And their necks yearn for the song of the camel driver, my eloquent brother,
فاِبعَثso rouse نَشاطَvigor سُؤمَهاtheir weary ones وَحَسيرَهاand their exhausted one
بغناءِwith the singing of حاديهاtheir camel-driver أَخيbrother to الأفصاحِeloquence
So rouse the vigor of their weary and exhausted ones
To revive their listless pace and revive their despair,
With the singing of their driver, brother to eloquence,
With the songs of their guide, O excellent in speech!
لِيُقيمَso as to revive ذاكَthat العودُthe lute مِنsomething of رَسمthe custom of السُرىnight travel
وَيَعودَand return فيinto الأَجسامthe bodies بالأَرواحِwith the spirits
So that lute may revive something of the custom of night travel
So that the lute may establish the marks of bliss,
And bring the spirits back into the bodies,
And return life to bodies and spirits,

So we may travel the paths of joy, finding our way
That we may tread the paths of joy, guided
With their footsore mounts, by the stars of the goblets.
By the stars of goblets raised in cheer!
