O moon whose horizon is my heart—

    a statement untainted by falsehood.

And whoever has come to enslave noble

speech has acquired it as his own.

    يَقومُ ذهني لَهُ بِسِلكِ

    I scattered the pearls of verse, unstrung;

my mind provides a thread for them.

    I lost—what a mind, by God,

that draws pearls from a jaw's sea!

And the birds came, entrusted with

your secret, O secret of every realm.

    Two couplets revealed an affection

you gave me sincerely, without doubt.
