أَقومُ عَلى الأَيّام خَيرَ مُقامِ

أَقومُ عَلى الأَيّام خَيرَ مُقامِ

وَأُوقِدُ في الأَعداءِ شَرَّ ضِرامِ

وَأُوقِدُ في الأَعداءِ شَرَّ ضِرامِ

I make the noblest stand against the days,

I stand firm in days of turmoil

And kindle the worst of blazes among enemies.

And kindle in my foes the flames of war

وَأُنفِقُ في كَسبِ المَحامِدِ مُهجَتي

وَأُنفِقُ في كَسبِ المَحامِدِ مُهجَتي

وَلَو كانَ في الذِكرِ الجَميل حِمامي

وَلَو كانَ في الذِكرِ الجَميل حِمامي

And I spend my lifeblood in earning praise,

I spend my soul seeking praise

Even if fair renown should mean my death.

Though my name be left unsung

وَأُبلغُ مِن دُنيايَ نَفسي سُؤلَها

وَأُبلغُ مِن دُنيايَ نَفسي سُؤلَها

وَأَضرِبُ في كُلِّ العُلا بِسِهام

وَأَضرِبُ في كُلِّ العُلا بِسِهام

And I grant my soul what it desires of my world,

I attain my heart's desire

And I strike with arrows at every height of glory.

And shoot my arrows high and far

إِذا فَضَحَ الأَملاكَ نَقصٌ فَإِنَّهُ

إِذا فَضَحَ الأَملاكَ نَقصٌ فَإِنَّهُ

يُبَيِّنُهُ عِندَ الأَنامِ تَمامي

يُبَيِّنُهُ عِندَ الأَنامِ تَمامي

If a failing disgraces kings, then

If angels fall from grace

My perfection reveals it before humankind.

My deeds will show humanity my worth
