حرَّمَ النَومَ عَلَينا وَرَقَد

وَاِبتَلانا بِهَواهُ ثُمَّ صَدْ

He denied us sleep and slept;

Sleep is forbidden to us, yet he rests

O crescent of lovely cheek, O young gazelle,

O crescent moon, beauty of the cheek, O soft

Of coy glance, O branch of supple stature,

Twig, languid glance, O straight rod

بِوادي لَكَ بِالشَوق الَّذي

بِوادي لَكَ بِالشَوق الَّذي

في فُؤادي لا تدَعني لِلكَمدْ

في فُؤادي لا تدَعني لِلكَمدْ

In a valley [wording unclear], for you, by the longing that

In the valley I have for you a longing that

Is in my heart, do not leave me to grief.

Is in my heart—let me not despair

لَستُ أَرضى عَن زَماني أَو أَرى

لَستُ أَرضى عَن زَماني أَو أَرى

مِنكَ حُسنا لا أَراهُ مِن أَحَدْ

مِنكَ حُسنا لا أَراهُ مِن أَحَدْ

I shall not be content with my days until I see

I'm not content with my time, nor do I see

From you a kindness I see from no one else.
