Your world is a mirror; it has vicissitudes—

    Diverse and heaven-sent—and tidings.

Fie upon it! Most of what is gained through it

By whoever prospers there is food and sex.

One who stayed was favored by fortune, while a traveler failed,

As though he were a chameleon in the midday heat.

    تَحارُ في كَونِها الأَلِبّاءُ

    Decrees keep arriving unceasingly;

The wise are bewildered by their occurrence.

The people's sons stood in their places,

And fathers were hidden in the dust.

And the prince's might vanished; gone

From him were his gifts and his loved ones.

And at every moment there is sin and disobedience,

Which a soul has added to the sins.
