دُنياكَyour world وَالحَمامُand the bathhouse فيin رُتبَةٍa rank
مِنfrom خارِجٍoutside غَمٌّdistress وَمِنand from داخِلِinside
Your world and the bathhouse stand on equal footing:
Your world and the pigeons are of one rank
distress outside, and distress within.
Outside is sadness, inside as well
ماnot طَهَّرَتit cleansed بَلrather دَنَّسَتit defiled وَاِرتَمَتand it did away
بِالسَيِّدِwith the lord الوَهّابِthe generous giver وَالباخِلِand the miser
It did not cleanse, but defiled, and did away
It did not purify, but defiled and became tarnished
with the generous lord and the miser.
By the Lord Most Generous and the miser
لَوif نُخِلَwere sifted العَيشُlife لَماwould not حَصَّلَتit obtain
شَيئاًanything سِوىexcept المَوتِdeath يَدُthe hand الناخِلِthe sifter
If life were sifted, it would yield
If life were emptied, it would gain
nothing but death to the sifter's hand.
Nothing but death by the hand of the miser
