Your piety is provision; believe, then, that it is

The best of what you have stored in the waterskin.

Alas, tomorrow, for sweat pouring down

And a soul consumed with longing to rise!

My garment needs someone to wash it,

And would that my heart were like it in purity.

An easy death accompanied by mercy

Is better than ease and a long life.

And we have experienced life in its phases,

So we have found in it nothing but misery.

People have gone ahead—oh, how we long

    To follow family and friends!

How sweet death is to those who drink it,

If it is true that the dead will soon meet again.
