كَبِرتَyou have grown old فَأَصبَحتَand so you have become لِلراشِدينَto the right-minded
كَبُرتٍlike a skilled pathfinder يُعَدُّis regarded لِهَديٍfor guidance دَليلاa guide
You have grown old, and to the right-minded you have become
Like a skilled pathfinder, regarded as a guide to the way.
كَبُرتَyou have grown great فَماand not زالَceased هَذاthis الزَمانُage
كَبَرتٍlike an axe يَجُذُّhews away قَليلاًa little قَليلاa little
You have grown great, and this age has not ceased
To hew away like an axe, little by little.
وَسَيفُand the sword المَنِيَّةِof death أَمضىthe sharpest السُيوفِof swords

And death’s sword is the sharpest of swords,
Yet no ear has heard a clang from it.
