أَوقَدتَyou kindled ناراًa fire بِإِفتِكارَكَwith your thought أَظهَرَتit revealed
أَوقَدتَ ناراً بِإِفتِكارَكَ أَظهَرَت
نَهجاًa path وَأَنتَyet you عَلىin سَناهاits radiance عاشِdim-sighted
نَهجاً وَأَنتَ عَلى سَناها عاشِ
With your thought you kindled a fire that revealed
A path, yet you are dim-sighted in its radiance.
مُتَكَهِّنٌa soothsayer وَمُنَجِّمٌand an astrologer وَمُعَزِّمٌand an exorcist
مُتَكَهِّنٌ وَمُنَجِّمٌ وَمُعَزِّمٌ
وَجَميعُand all ذاكَthat تَحَيُّلٌtrickery لِمَعاشِfor a livelihood
وَجَميعُ ذاكَ تَحَيُّلٌ لِمَعاشِ
A soothsayer, an astrologer, and an exorcist—
And all of that is trickery for a livelihood.
قَدindeed أُرعِشَتwas made to tremble يَدُhand سائِلٍa beggar مِنfrom كَبرَةٍold age
قَد أُرعِشَت يَدُ سائِلٍ مِن كَبرَةٍ
وَلِنائِلٍand for a gift بُسِطَتit was outstretched عَلىdespite الإِرعاشِthe trembling
وَلِنائِلٍ بُسِطَت عَلى الإِرعاشِ
A beggar's hand has been made to tremble by old age,
And is outstretched for a gift despite its trembling.
