أَيَسمَعُ خالِقي مِنّي دُعاءً

أَيَسمَعُ خالِقي مِنّي دُعاءً

فَأُصبِحَ في كَياني مُستَقيلا

فَأُصبِحَ في كَياني مُستَقيلا

Will my Creator hear a prayer from me,

So I may seek release from my existence?

كَأَنَّ العالَمينَ صُلوا هَجيراً

كَأَنَّ العالَمينَ صُلوا هَجيراً

فَما يُلفي بِهِ أَحَدٌ مَقيلا

فَما يُلفي بِهِ أَحَدٌ مَقيلا

It is as though all beings were scorched by midday heat,

So no one finds in it a place for midday rest.

لَقَد جَرَّبتُ حَتّى لَم أُصَدِّق

لَقَد جَرَّبتُ حَتّى لَم أُصَدِّق

حَديثاً عَن قَريبٍ مَدىً نَقيلا

حَديثاً عَن قَريبٍ مَدىً نَقيلا

Indeed, I have tested things until I no longer believe

A report passed on from someone close at hand.

إِذا صَلَّوا فَصَلِّ وَعِفَّ وَاِبذُل

إِذا صَلَّوا فَصَلِّ وَعِفَّ وَاِبذُل

زَكاتَكَ وَاِجتَنِب قالاً وَقيلا

زَكاتَكَ وَاِجتَنِب قالاً وَقيلا

When they pray, pray; be chaste, and give

Your alms, and shun idle talk and gossip.

وَلا تُرهِف مُدىً لِعَبيطِ نَحضٍ

وَلا تُرهِف مُدىً لِعَبيطِ نَحضٍ

وَلا تَشهَر عَلى قِرنٍ صَقيلا

وَلا تَشهَر عَلى قِرنٍ صَقيلا

And do not sharpen knives for fresh flesh,

Nor draw a polished sword against an opponent.

إِذا جالَسَتهُم فَأَقَلُّ شَيءٍ

إِذا جالَسَتهُم فَأَقَلُّ شَيءٍ

تَجُرُّ بِذاكَ أَن تُدعى ثَقيلا

تَجُرُّ بِذاكَ أَن تُدعى ثَقيلا

If you sit with them, then the least thing

You incur thereby is to be called a bore.
