ما لي رَأَيتُكَ لا تُلِمُّ بِمَسجِدٍ

ما لي رَأَيتُكَ لا تُلِمُّ بِمَسجِدٍ

حَتّى كَأَنَّكَ في البَلاغِ السابِعِ

حَتّى كَأَنَّكَ في البَلاغِ السابِعِ

Why do I see you never visiting a mosque,

I have not seen you blame a mosque,

so much so that you seem to be at the seventh degree of initiation?

As if you were in the seventh heaven.

سَبِّح بِواحِدَةٍ فَفيها بُلغَةٌ

سَبِّح بِواحِدَةٍ فَفيها بُلغَةٌ

لِلمُتَّقينَ وَكُل بِخَمسِ أَصابِع

لِلمُتَّقينَ وَكُل بِخَمسِ أَصابِع

Glorify God with one finger, for that suffices

Glorify with one, for in it is eloquence,

for the God-fearing; and eat with five fingers.

For the pious, and each with five fingers.

يا أَوَّلاً في الكُفرِ لَم يَكُ ثانِياً

يا أَوَّلاً في الكُفرِ لَم يَكُ ثانِياً

طالَ اِستِتارُكَ بِالإِمامِ الرابِعِ

طالَ اِستِتارُكَ بِالإِمامِ الرابِعِ

O first in unbelief, who was never second,

O first in unbelief, none was second to you,

long have you hidden behind the fourth imam.

Your hiding behind the fourth imam was long.

وَالشِمرُ عِندَكَ في الحُسَينِ مُوَفَّقٌ

وَالشِمرُ عِندَكَ في الحُسَينِ مُوَفَّقٌ

لَمّا حَماهُ مِنَ الفُراتِ النابِعِ

لَمّا حَماهُ مِنَ الفُراتِ النابِعِ

And in your view, Shimr acted rightly toward Husayn

And al-Shimr with you was successful against al-Husayn,

when he barred him from the flowing Euphrates.

When he protected him from the gushing Euphrates.

وَما صَحَّ عِندي أَنَّ ذاتَ خَلاخِلٍ

وَما صَحَّ عِندي أَنَّ ذاتَ خَلاخِلٍ

تُقفى مِنَ الجِنِّ الغُواةِ بِتابِعِ

تُقفى مِنَ الجِنِّ الغُواةِ بِتابِعِ

Nor do I hold it true that a woman wearing anklets

And it is not valid for me that a flimsy entity,

is trailed by a follower from among the wayward jinn.

Can be protected from the rebellious jinn with a follower.
