Whenever I speak, my age almost sets before me, to confront my tongue,
Whenever I speak, my years almost erect before me
a figure opposing it with admonitions and rebukes.
A figure who reproaches me with admonitions that make me weep,
وَتَقولُand says مَنwhoever بَعَثَset in motion اللِسانَthe tongue بِغَيرِwith other than ماwhat
وَتَقولُ مَن بَعَثَ اللِسانَ بِغَيرِ ما

أَرضى فَحَقٌّ أَن يُهانَ وَيَسكُتا
And it says: “Whoever sets the tongue moving with words I do not
And say, “He who looses his tongue with other than what
approve of deserves to be humiliated and fall silent.”
Pleases [God], it is right that he should be disgraced and silenced.”
