When the living man is clothed in his shrouds,

then clothing and wearer alike have perished.

And the face decays, neither smiling

when time brings joy, nor frowning.

And he is confined in a narrow grave,

and his jailer will not set him free.

So he does not journey among those gone before,

nor does he seek a flame in pitch darkness.

He dwells beside people who have excelled in admonition,

yet not one of them utters a word.
