When the living man is clothed in his shrouds,

Then clothing and wearer alike have perished.

And the face decays, neither smiling

When time brings joy, nor frowning.

And he is confined in a narrow grave,

And the one who confines him will not release him.

So he is no traveler among those gone before,

Nor is he seeking a flame in deep darkness.

He dwells beside people who excel in admonition,

Yet not one of them utters a word.
