إِذا دارَتِ الكَأسُ في دارِهِم

إِذا دارَتِ الكَأسُ في دارِهِم

فَقَد رَحَلَ الدينُ عَن دارِهِم

فَقَد رَحَلَ الدينُ عَن دارِهِم

When the cup goes round within their house,

If the cup makes its rounds in their home,

Religion has already departed from their house.

فَما وُفِّقوا عِندَ إيرادِهِم

فَما وُفِّقوا عِندَ إيرادِهِم

وَلا وُفِّقوا عِندَ إِصدارِهِم

وَلا وُفِّقوا عِندَ إِصدارِهِم

They were granted no right guidance in their approach,

So they were granted no success in their bringing in,

Nor were they granted it in their departure.

nor were they granted success in their sending out.

وَفي رَفعِ أَصواتِهِم بِالغِناءِ

وَفي رَفعِ أَصواتِهِم بِالغِناءِ

دَليلٌ عَلى حَطِّ أَقدارِهِم

دَليلٌ عَلى حَطِّ أَقدارِهِم

And in their raising their voices in song

And in their raising their voices in song

Lies proof that they have lowered their own standing.

فَإِن كُنتَ خِدناً لَهُم فَاِحبُهُم

فَإِن كُنتَ خِدناً لَهُم فَاِحبُهُم

جَفاءً عَلى قُربِ مُزدارِهِم

So if you are their intimate, then love them

So if you are their close companion, then bestow upon them

With aloofness, though their dwelling lies near.

estrangement, though the place to visit them is near.
